Anah's Tale Part 2

Thank god, the second part of Anah's Tale is finally done. It took a lot longer than I thought it was going to take, but that was mostly because the second part is now 33,000 words. To give you an idea of how long that really is, Lucifer and Eva is 30,000 words, and I was originally planning on this being 15,000 words. Now that part two is complete, I can take a small break from writing. This week I was planning on revealing cover art for the book. That will be moved back one week, and you will be getting another sample chapter.

To set this up: Anah has been brought to an elvish city. He is allowed to stay, but is under the guard of an elf named Lilly, and is forced to wear a wet of bracers that cut off his powers. After Anah nearly gets ripped in half by an ice dragon, we meet an elvish swordsman named Thorn. Anah challenges him to a sword fight in a practice arena.

The chapter: Thorn turned towards Anah and stepped forward. He looked at the staff sergeant who then nodded at another soldier. The soldier appeared carrying two long wooden swords. Anah grabbed one and Thorn the other. Anah took a few steps back. Even though the sword was half his size, the weight still felt like nothing. He held the sword with on hand in front of him the blade stood a foot above him, and the handle extended far below where his hand. Thorn looked back at him. His arms were below his body even with Anah’s. He smirked one hand gripping the sword. Anah ran forward. He raised his blade. He yelled as he swung his sword down, “Yaaaa!” The blade hit only the wood post Thorn was standing in front of. Thorn was to Anah’s back. Anah turned and slashed again trying to catch the Thorn before he could move. Thorn just stepped back out of the way. Thorn was still smirking as Anah continued to slash him again and again. Thorn avoided every attack, he didn’t block nor did he even attempt to raise his sword. The elves around the ring smiled and laughed as they watched the god struggle. Anah was getting more and more tired and more and more frustrated with each swing. “Fight back,” he yelled. Thorn didn’t reply he just continued to dodge the attacks. Anah felt the sweat on his forehead. He trusted his sword at Thorn who dodged to Anah’s back. Finally, Thorn raised his sword. Both hands gripped the handle and came crashing down onto the wooden blade of Anah’s sword. The sword fell to the ground and out of Anah’s hand. Anah saw his blade fall to the ground and looked at Thorn. His smirk was gone. Thorn turned and smacked Anah across the chest with his blade. Anah was knocked back a few steps and grabbed his chest the blow. The air was knocked out of him. Thorn continued his attack. He smacked Anah again and again. Anah would move to block with his bracers only to find Thorn no longer attacking there. Thorn rose his blade and sent it crashing down across Anah’s skull sending the god to the ground his head bleeding. Thorn walked back and picked up Anah’s blade. He stood his back to Anah, “You had enough?” Anah felt his head and looked at his blood. He looked up at Thorn. He balled his fists and growled. The colors of his eyes tried to fade away as the symbols on the bracers glowed brightly. In the back of the crowd, Alrick stood next to Lilly and Hazel. Hazel and Lilly were trying to get through the crowd. “What's happening,” Hazel said looking up at Alrick who could see over the crowd. “The symbols on the bracers are glowing,” the frost dragon said. “What does that mean?” Lilly asked. “It means those symbols are pushed to their brink. We have to end this now before they fail.” “I didn’t think that was possible,” Lilly said. “Everything has its limit,” a voice called out from behind the three. All three turned and saw Alastair standing behind them. “Alastair,” Alrick said. “You have to put an end to this fight before the bracers fail.” “No,” Alastair said. “Let them fail, I want to see what the boy can do.” Anah stood, his body sparking black electricity. The crowd around the fight looked at Anah, their eyes wide. Thorn turned around and saw the god. He ran over and picked up his sword and drew it holding a black obsidian blade in front of him. Anah opened his hand, and one of the wooden swords flew into it. The blade turned black in his hand as a fire burst from the wood. He swung the sword at Thorn who blocked with his obsidian blade. “Everyone out of here,” Thorn yelled. Anah’s hair turned black as his skin glowed brightly. He stood in a deadlock with Thorn as the two pushed back and forth. The crowd backed away from the ring. Alastair walked forward his arms folded behind him. Lilly and Hazel stood behind Alrick as they watched Anah and Thorn battle. Anah pushed off and send Thorn back. Anah jumped towards the elf and slammed his sword pieces of the platform. Thorn avoided the strike. Flames fired in all directions, as Anah’s blade fell to the floor of the platform. Anah turned slowly towards Thorn. His blade still on fire he took one step towards the warrior. “Anah,” Alastair murmured. Anah turned. The dragon placed two fingers onto Anah’s forehead, and the god stopped. His eyes returned to their normal state, the sword burned away in his hand, he fell to the ground. Thorn stood gripping his sword. He looked at Alastair sweat falling from his head. “What was that?” “Something I didn’t think possible,” Alastair turned to Thorn. “Alert the council I will be meeting with them shortly.” The dragon turned to Alrick. “My dear would you be so kind as to put out the flames.” He looked down at Lilly and Hazel. “And you two take Anah to my home. I fear it will be safest if he stays with me until I come back from the council.” Lilly and Hazel grabbed Anah by his arms and carried him away as the frost dragon sprayed ice on the black flames the still burned. Thorn approached Alastair. “Alastair, I don’t think it's wise that you take him. He is much stronger than any god I have faced. He has to die.” Alastair turned towards the soldier. “See to the Council, let worry about the boy.”
