Anah's Tale Part 1

The Middle Kingdom

So we are a week since my last post. We been working on part two. I have decided due to the nature of a few of the story lines I am going to have Anah's tale beta read before I post it anywhere publicly.

With that in mind I am going to post about a thousand words from Anah's tale Part 1 today and next week I will post part of part 2, and then we will post cover art for both parts the week after.

Anah's Tale - Fears

The path he walked split into two. The young god stood straight and started to walk right when he heard the sound of rocks moving just in front of him. He looked and saw the mountain of rocks started to roll down the hill.

Anah jumped back. The rocks created a large fog around Anah. Anah looked and saw at the path he was going to walk. The rocks were piled high and left Anah with only the left path.

He pointed his sword and walked down the left path. The voice of Nidhogg’s father hadn’t echoed towards him for a long time. The image of the girl still lingered in the back of his mind. He stepped into a large clearing, and stopped.

He looked around and saw a lush green forest. The trees surrounded him as he looked out into small lake. He turned around and was only facing trees.

“This can't be right,” Anah said softly. He closed his eyes and focused. When he opened them he was looking into the blackness that was the cave.

Anah looked back where he was walking. “You think this is a game,” he shouted.

“I think you’re the first god that has come here in a while, and I would like to play with you,” the voice echoed back. “Come little god, just a little farther then you get your reward.”

Anah ran into the darkness. He ran as fast as he could. He started to hear the sound of rocks moving in the distance, and saw a small amber light. He ran towards the light and into a clearing. He stood in front of a large campfire.

He watched the flame dance for a moment then saw two faceless beings sitting around it. One was a young boy, and the other an older man.

“Ah,” the dragon’s voice called out. “So my son has come back to me.” The dragon finished by laughing loudly. The larger figure around the fire started to become shaped like Nidhogg. He looked at Anah and smiled.

“You can’t do this Anah,” the specter of the Nidhogg said. His voice mimicked Nidhogg’s voice. “You will fail, just as you failed your father, and your mother, just as you will fail in avenging them.”

Tears started to flow down Anah’s face. The scene faded away and was replaced. A home burned in the distance. His home burned in the distance. He looked and saw the fleeing of horses away from the house, a woman strapped to one of them.

Anah looked and fell to his knees. He looked once again at his father’s head on a spike. The eyes still open he stared blankly at Anah. Anah cried as he looked at the scene.

“You failed me,” the head said. “You failed your mother. You were always such a disappointment to us. You even needed help bringing yourself into this world. I wish you had died.”

Anah looked up at the head. The head continued to speak. Anah stood quickly. He roared as loudly as he could. His body lit up with a bright and powerful white light. The illusions faded away. The rocks that created his maze shattered. The cave was fully lit for just a few seconds. When it was done Anah fell to his knees.

For a second there was nothing. Then the ground shook. Anah heard a bombing noise in the distance as footsteps came closer and closer. Anah stood his shield in front of him and his sword just behind it.

The god heard a powerful, but soft growl in the darkness. Little sparks started appearing in the distance. The sparks turned into a flame that flowed between two set of jagged teeth. More and more of the dragon appeared.

His head shot up. His jaw opened and he shot a flame into the roof of the cave. The fire burned a red and white color, even as far as Anah was he could feel the heat from the flames. The top of the cave was consumed in the flame. The dragon stood in front of Anah and looked into the god.

Anah now saw how large the dragon was. Looking at the dragon with his black scales lit up, the young god could only think how he would fit into his mouth easily. His neck was long and slithered around like a snake. He started to step towards Anah, his massive body knocking piles of rocks over that Anah couldn’t even move. He slammed down onto all four of his legs and slithered his head in front of Anah.

The god stood his shield still in front, his sword just behind hit. He looked at the dragon with all the bravery he could muster, but he could feel a chill running up his spin.

The dragon cracked a large toothy grin. He slithered back his body coiled. Anah looked at his muscular legs, his large feet, and the claws that were bigger than his sword. He continued to look until he saw a long tail waving around behind him.

The large black dragon jumped. Anah dropped to a knee and held his shield high as the dragon extended his wings and flew above the small god and into the distance.

“Come and fight you coward,” Anah yelled.

A laugh was the response. “Ah the arrogance of youth,” he said. “Walk a little farther little god. See what happened to the other who challenged me.”
