Blog entry: Who is Dylan Price

Dylan Price, the main character of Chronicles of Hazard City. The first chapter of Chronicles of Hazard City was released not too long ago, (found here), and with this being our first blog post about Chronicles I figured I would start with, who is Dylan Price.

Let us start with Johnathon Price, Dylan Price’s father. Johnathon Price, like his son, would be, was consider one of the greatest soldiers of all time. He defended his country with passion and courage that inspired all others around him. He only disobeyed one direct order. The day his wife went into labor, he was supposed to fly to a military base and ship overseas. Not only did he not fly out he went and stayed at his wife side until his son Dylan Price was born. Unfortunately, due to complications during labor Dylan’s mother Janet Price died shortly after giving birth.

Johnathon Price would then be dishonorably discharged from the military, along with an unnamed officer. With a family to feed, he heard about a mercenary outfit called the Black Talons. He and a friend joined the Black Talons and quickly became the most feared mercenaries on the planet. Johnathon had only one rule; no civilians were ever to be killed. Eight years after joining, tragedy struck. While attending a meeting Johnathon and his squad came under fire. The Black Talons were ambushed and killed. The bodies were taken and were never found.

At eight years old, Dylan had lost his mother and father. His father made sure that Dylan was cared for. He was taken and put into a military academy that allowed for him to live on campus. He always kept to himself but got a reputation as a fierce fighter.

When he was ten years old, he was put up against a new entry into the academy. A young seer named Miles Jackson (I'll make an article about him later) stood and fought him. Miles would close his eyes and see the fight before it would even start. When the fight started, he found that Dylan wasn’t like most opponents. He didn’t plan, but reacted, this fighting style made Miles technique useless, and the young soldier beat the seer several times. The two would grow to hate each other in the coming years.

Miles and Dylan would take different paths for a while. Both would be respected, but they would never be liked by the other kids. When they got to high school, they both met a similar situation. Her name was Hunter.

Hunter was a transfer from a school ran by a private military called Legion. She was instantly hated by much of the student body. One day a large group of students surrounded her and physically beat her until Miles Jackson stood in their way. He closed his eyes, but no matter what he, or Hunter, did they weren’t able to fight off the mob. That was until Dylan shouted for the crowd to disperse. The group dispersed, and the three stayed friends all through high school.

Through those four years, each one of the three grew to respect the other. Miles was almost impossible to outsmart on a battlefield. Hunter was considered Dylan’s equal in a one on one fight, but she excelled in stealth tactics, knife fighting, and archery.

Dylan though was considered the best-trained soldier at the school. When working in battle simulations, he would show more courage in saving people than either Miles or Hunter. He would also never abandon anyone and find a way to adapt to the fight in front of him. When the three reached graduation, it was said that if Miles and Dylan joined Legion, they would be put in an elite squad with Hunter. This would never come to pass, Hunter would join Legion, and Miles and Dylan would enter into the Army.

At that time, the army didn’t have the ability to field more than a few thousand troops at once. This led to the Army creating specialized units. These units were called Sentinels.

Lead by Miles, Dylan and a group of six men were sent on missions to destabilize countries, and end fights before they became full wars. The Sentinels became known as six man army. Miles would plan most of the operations. Sometimes an op wouldn’t go as intended, and a large scale battle would start. These were rare for Miles’s team, but when happened Miles differed his command to Dylan. Things changed after six years.

When Dylan was twenty-four years old, Congress decided that Legion would fully take over as the US military. All resources went to Legion, including the Sentinels. Miles never wanted to work for Legion, so he left the army and joined the CIA. This left Dylan’s team with a spot open. Dylan lobbied to have Hunter added, but Legion command added Victor Lang. Over the next year, every member of Dylan’s squad would be replaced by a different Legion soldier.

A year passed, Dylan was asked to destabilize regions, take down governments, and assassinate kings. The job was starting to get to him, he found out that Legion had a file on his father, and asked to see it. According to Legion records, Jonathon Price was a terrorist that targeted civilians. He stole, extorted, and killed for profit. The news shook Dylan, and soon he was given a new mission, and it would be his last with Legion.

Little is known about Dylan’s final mission with Legion. Dylan was set out to a village in the outskirts of the Ghana Empire. A known militant was hiding within that village. Reports state that Dylan entered into a village and as he exited as an attack of white phosphorous rained down on the village. The report also said as the civilian fled the attack Dylan gun them down. When his squad tried to stop him, Dylan killed all but one Victor Lang.

The report was Victor Lang’s, and it was believed throughout the world. Only two men didn’t believe it, Miles was one, and the other was a man named Zeek. Zeek, the leader of a mercenary outfit known as Talon Company, he tracked down Dylan at a bar in Siberia within a month.

Zeek told Dylan he knew his father. He was discharged from the military with him and was the last member of the Black Talons. He knew what happened to his father, and knew that Legion was lying about the attack. Dylan didn’t say what happened on his last mission, but he joined Talon Company. He wanted one rule to any contract he signed, no civilians were to be hurt.

Zeek personally watched over Dylan. Dylan came into contact with Miles sometimes, he was always going by different names, but the two always acknowledged one another. A year had passed, and Dylan was sitting in a bar in Germany when he saw a fourteen-year-old prostituting herself to many of the patrons. Dylan called her over and asked for her story.

The girl was named Angel Mors. She used to be the daughter of a CEO at Polycephaly Industries. When he divorced her mother and kicked both them out her life went from one tragedy to another. Her mother died a year ago, and now she had no one. Dylan remembered what that was like, and brought her to Zeek. She was added to Talon Company but was only to go into the field with Dylan.

When Dylan was twenty-eight years old, he came back to the US for the first time in three years. Still wanted by Legion, he was brought in to watch over a shipment out of the city. When the job was finished, he went to a local bar called Deangelo’s.

Authors note about Dylan Price:

Dylan is one of my favorite characters. Since he’s turned eighteen, he has gone from warzone to warzone. He has seen and dealt with the worst humanity has to offer. Yet, he never gives up on any of them. He stands in front of an army, because he can and because whatever is behind him is worth protecting.
